Government Sanskrit College is among one of the pioneer Sanskrit Colleges in the region of North India from where thousands of dedicated students gave their support in the growth and development of Sanskrit Language by devoting their time for studies. This is a remarkable honour for the statehood of Himachal Pradesh. The college offers two undergraduate programs Prak-shastri and Shastri.
College students are enriched with multidimensional talents so as a result they get various Golden Medals, Silver Medals and Bronze Medals by participating in cultural programmes. College is dynamically engaged in the elevation of traditional and cultural aspects moreover college students also participate in inter-Sanskrit or other government college cultural programmes and sports tournaments. In the historic epic of college, Independent India much before 1923, Mr. Surajmani Suri of this Nagar establishes Government Sanskrit School. Thereafter in 1948 same was upgraded to the Government Sanskrit Degree College and was established by the Indian government. Mr Bhagat Ram Shastri was the first Principal of this college.
